If you have cable TV, that remote would likely work as well.Ī cheap Harmony like the 300 (~$15 on ebay) would also work for all functions. Can you post a picture of your generic remote? If it's UEI, it should accept EFCs and solve your problem. I can post them if you decide to go that route. You can add every possible function plus all service code functions not found on any Philips remote to a typical UEI remote (~$10-$15 or free from your cable company) using EFC codes.

You should be able to complete the FW upgrade with the buttons on the TV itself. The wrong protocol (RC5 instead of RC6 for example) will register on the TV but won't perform any function.

Some Philips codes are RC5, RC6 or a combo of the two. If low batteries aren't the issue, then there's nothing else you can do to get that remote working. Remote Control For Philips 52TA648BX/37 47TA648BX/37 42PFL5603D LCD TV It's not the end of the world if I can't get this working but I needed more input before sending it back. I've, also, reset all AV settings to default in the setup menu. I even tried the 'menu' button on the set itself as a 'select' button, with no luck. I've tried to upgrade the TV software but my generic remote won't allow me to complete that operation. Does anyone have any info on whether I can somehow program this thing to work? The vendor will take it back, but if I could get it to work, I'd be happier. The remote sensor LED on the TV responds (blinks) to me pushing buttons but no function actually works w/ this remote. I bought what I thought would work from an ebay vendor.

My TV works w/ it but I wanted more complete functioning OEM (although aftermarket) unit. It does not have the OEM remote so have been using a generic unit. I picked it up for nothing and use it in my office. I have a vintage Philips 42TA648BX/37 TV. I'm on such a low end of the remote control spectrum of devices, I'm sure some guffaws are coming.no offense taken. I've read through related sticky which was very informative.
